For my Practical element of Community Action, I will be volunteering at Kendal Library for the Summer Reading Challenge. On May 10th the Library posted on Facebook that their applications were now open for volunteers to apply and I managed to get my application dropped off on the 11th:

As I have already completed my Research and Inspire sections, I have completed 19.25 of the 25 hours to go towards the Community Action Element, meaning I need to complete 5.75 hours to complete my target. Over the summer I will be volunteering at the library as much as I can outside of working full time.
Hours Total: 10.5
July 3rd, 30 minutes: I went to the Library this afternoon for a 30 minute introduction with 3 other volunteers. We had a tour around the library including looking at the staff room and behind the scenes room before sitting down and going through how the summer reading challenge works.
July 15th, 3 hours: Today was my first proper volunteering session for the Summer Reading Challenge, we didn't have any young people sign up today as its still technically term time. I volunteered from 12 until 3pm. I had a look through the reading challenge documents and made myself aware of what was given out at which stage to young people in the challenge.
July 22nd, 2 hours: Myself and another volunteer were at the library between 2 and 4pm today, tis officially the summer holidays now and we managed to get around 15 young people signed up to the challenge! Some young people had also come back to get some of the stickers and rewards for completing really their second and third books! We talked to the young people about the books they read, what their favourite books were and if they were enjoying the challenge.
July 31st, 3 hours: 14 children have completed the Summer reading challenge as of today, with around 6 weeks still to go.
August 2nd, 2 hours: 20 children have now completed the summer reading challenge, and we now have over 300 children signed up.
